Sheltered housing for older people

Sheltered housing is for people who are over 55 and who want to live independently in a home of their own, but want the peace of mind which extra support can provide.

Our sheltered housing consists of either bungalows or flats which are completely self-contained, with their own bathrooms and kitchens. Each sheltered flat or bungalow is within a group of similar sheltered properties and some have a community room with regular social activities. Residents are regularly contacted by one of the Helena Extra team and receive a level of support tailored to their needs.

All of our sheltered housing has the extra reassurance of an emergency alarm, so that residents can speak to someone and get help at any time of the day or night.

We listen to people who live in our schemes and agree a package of support that is right for them. We recognise that this can change depending on circumstances, for example when someone has just come out of hospital. We work closely with others, including health professionals, to make sure that our residents get the right support. Our aim is to help older people live independently in their own homes and to promote dignity, respect and choice in the service we offer.

Our staff will help residents organise social events and activities which help older people to keep in touch with friends, make new ones and even learn some new skills.
