Community alarm service
The community alarm service helps people to live independently in their own home by allowing them to get help if they need it, day or night. A community alarm is installed in the home. By simply pressing a button or pulling a cord, help is on hand.
Once the alarm service is called, help will take the form of:
- Providing reassurance or advice
- Contacting a key holder or family member
- Contacting the GP
- Contacting the emergency services
- Sending the mobile response service round to provide emergency assistance
Our community alarm service is provided in partnership with Astraline, which is part of Cheshire-based Johnnie Johnson Housing Association, who have over 35 years experience in providing sheltered housing. The mobile response service is provided by Community Voice, who work as a sub-contractor to Astraline. Their teams are based locally in St Helens.
The service is available for anyone who has an illness or disability which limits their ability to live independently in their own home. In some cases, this may be for a short time after someone is discharged from hospital. The service is paid for by a service charge which is added to the weekly rent The charge is eligible for a Supporting People subsidy, available through St Helens Council.
