Launch of Parr Mount Court's new community room
Residents from sheltered schemes across St Helens recently celebrated the launch of Helena’s new community room at Parr Mount Court.
Representatives from re:new held a ‘sloppy slippers’ exchange to ensure that old worn out slippers were replaced with new ones, to not only help prevent falls, but also keep residents’ feet warm.
Residents also spent the morning having health checks from the Healthy Living team as well as manicures and pedicures from a therapist.
The afternoon session was all about ‘wellbeing’ and various arts and crafts activities took place, including glass painting, card making, flower arranging and sewing demonstrations.
The new community facility will host a range of events for over 50’s in the future and anyone from the local community can get involved. St Helens’ Mayor John Beirne joined in with the celebrations, cutting the ribbon to officially open the community room and releasing 99 red balloons to represent the number of flats at the scheme.
He said: “I remember when Parr Mount Court was first built – it has come a long way since then, the facilities are excellent and the wider community will really benefit from all the activities available to them.”
A number of agencies took part in the day including: Medicines Management, Age Concern, Shop Mobility, DASH, NHS, Visually Impaired team, Shoots Food Club, Fire Service, Merseyside Police, Podiatry, Physiotherapy and the re:new Parr team.
