All hail the Queen of West End Road
A Haydock pensioner has fulfilled her childhood wish to be crowned a May Queen.
Helena Partnerships tenant Bebe Barker, 67, picked up her queen's crown with a golden veil at a special May Pole event at West End Road sheltered housing scheme this month.
Inspired by their childhood days, the tenants relived the tradition of dancing around the maypole and crowned Bebe as their queen.
Bebe said: "Ever since I was a little girl I've dreamed of being a May Queen and now that dream has become a reality. I'll always remember this special day."
Scheme Manager, Jean Baddley, added: "This was a wonderful gathering for sheltered tenants and the wider community. I was glad to see the tenants having so much fun and am already looking forward to next year's event."
The festivities carried on well into the evening as the neighbours played bingo and sung along to their favourite country and western classics.
