Balloon release marks 50th anniversary of scheme
Helena Homes' tenants recently marked the re-opening of their newly refurbished community room with tea, cakes and a balloon launch.
The community room at Martin Avenue sheltered scheme in Newton has been refurbished, making the fifty-year old centre easier for residents to access and more inviting to use.
Flooring has been levelled, it has had a new kitchen fitted, new office for the scheme manager, new laminate flooring in the community room, and more windows to make the room light and airy.
Jean Naylor who lives at the scheme delivered a speech about the history of the scheme and how the residents hope the new scheme will enhance their lives. 3 of the long standing residents released easter themed yellow balloons to signify the 50th anniversary of the centre.
Councillor Suzanne Knight judged the residents' easter cake competition with Ann Shaw being crowned the winner and top prize for the bonnet competition went to Marjorie Clark.
Also on hand were representatives from Money Matters, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Benefits Advice, giving out information on financial matters and staying safe in your home.
Residents finished off their day with tea and cakes whilst being entertained by youngsters from St Peter's C of E Primary school who came along to sing some Beatles classics.
