Help with furniture

We offer furnished accommodation to people whose circumstances make it difficult for them to buy what they need to set up home. New tenants of Helena Homes can apply for furniture and pay for it weekly as part of their rent. Most people who do this are entitled to additional Housing Benefit to pay for the service.

The kinds of things we can provide include

• Carpets
• Washing machines, fridges and cookers
• Beds and other furniture such as dining tables and sofas

People who wish to apply for the service should first register as a member of Under One Roof, the St Helens choice based lettings service. We will assess eligibility for the scheme based on the individual’s need for furniture and their personal circumstances.

Depending on the amount of furniture needed, a weekly charge will be calculated and added to the rent as a service charge. Most people who are eligible for the service can claim housing benefit to cover the cost.

Once the offer of a home is made through Under One Roof eligible individuals can arrange a furniture package which is right for them. After two years, and once a year after that, customers can decide whether they want to continue with the service or have the furniture taken away.
